MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br /> Monday,August 15,2011 <br /> . 6:30 o'clock p.m. � <br /> 3. Is there any need to screen the dumpsters at their proposed location? <br /> � The City Engineer did have a number of concems that the applicant is addressing. The applicant is also <br /> working with the Minnehaha Watershed District. All of the drainage is directed towards the pond that is <br /> located behi.nd the golf dome,which is located in the City of Long Lake. Based on an agreement,the <br /> City of Orono maintains that pond. There aze no additional impervious areas and it is not expected there <br /> will be any additional runoff to the pond that has not already been planned for. <br /> Planning Staff recommends approval of the utility easement vacation subject to dedication of a <br /> replacement easement as well as approval of the site plan subject to compliance with a11 pertinent Code <br /> requirements and subject to satisfactorily addressing the issues raised by the City Engineer prior to City <br /> Council review. <br /> Schoenzeit asked if there are any requirements for snow removal. <br /> Gaffron stated they have excess pazking stalls as well as the loading dock area and that there appears to be <br /> adequate storage for snow. Gaffi-on noted they are providing 25 parking stalls in excess of City Code that <br /> could be utilized for snow storage. • • <br /> Landgraver asked if the current drainage feeds into that pond. <br /> Gaffron indicated it does. <br /> Levang asked why the current access needs to be relocated. <br /> Gaffron sta.ted to his understanding it is to accommodate truck movements. <br /> Levang asked whether the new driveway would i.mpact the stoplight at Old Crystal Bay Road and <br /> Highway 12. <br /> Gaffron stated the City Engineer did not have any specific concern regarding stacking at that stoplight. <br /> Landgraver asked if the trash containers have been taken into account with the truck traffic. <br /> Gaffron stated in his view they probably can but that would be a question for the applicant. <br /> John Minge,JEM Technical, stated he started the business in 1984 and that he and his family have been <br /> residents of Maple Plain in the past and have also lived in Orono for 20 years. They currently reside in <br /> Long Lake. Minge indicated his daughter is the general manager of the company and resides in Orono. <br /> Minge stated both of his children have attended the Orono Schools. <br /> Minge indicated he would like to have the operations of JEM Teclinical all contai.ned in one building. <br /> The manufacturing section of the business comprises approximately 80 percent and there aze currently 80 <br /> people employed. There are basically three shifts,with one shift being on the weekend. Minge stated he <br /> would like all of his operations consolidated under one roof rather than three buildings. The existing <br /> building is one story and they would like to expand that to accommodate office space and future growth. <br /> Page <br /> 10 <br />
