Identify all buckthorn with trunk diameter greater than 1.5"measured at ground level <br /> within the control areas. Chemically treat with gl.yphosate, Garlon or Rodeo using cut <br /> stump method or girdling. Mark cut stumps with colored wire flag. <br /> 2. Identify buckthorn saplings less than or equal to three(3) feet tall within the control <br /> areas. Treat saplings with foliar chemical treatment glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo. <br /> Phase 2—Extended Maintenance <br /> 1. Identify all new growth buckthorn with trunk diameter greater than 1.5"measured at <br /> ground level within the control areas. Chemically treat with glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo <br /> using cut stump method or girdling. <br /> 2. Identify flagged stumps from Phase 1 and apply glyphosate to stumps that have re- <br /> sprouted. Treat stump shoots with glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo. <br /> 3. Identify new buckthorn samplings less than or equal to three (3) feet tall within the <br /> control area. Treat saplings with glyphosate, Garlon or Rodeo. <br /> 4. Continue phase 2 methods for the life of the project which ends two years after the <br /> completion of construction. <br /> COMMON/GLOSSY BUCKTHORN CONTROL METHODS <br /> 1. The following methods are approved methods of removal and control. Any deviation <br /> from these methods needs to be approved by the owner's representative prior to their use. <br /> 1VIethod 1 —Foliar Chemical Treatment <br /> 1. Foliar chemical treatment shall be used on buckthorn saplings less than or equal to three <br /> (3) feet tall. <br /> 2. Chemical spray shall be applied between the months of mid-September through October. <br /> Chemical spray shall not be used between Mazch 15 and Julyl� <br /> 3. Spray to wet all foliage of saplings. <br /> � 4. Use handheld or backpack sprayers with ultra-low volume nozzles to minimize contact <br /> with desirable existing plants. <br /> 5.
