�, <br /> MINUTES OF THE <br /> ORONO PLANNING COMIVIISSION MEETING <br /> Monday,August 17,2009 <br /> 6:30 o'clock p.m. <br /> ROLL <br /> The Orono Planning Commission met on the above-mentioned date with the following members present: <br /> Chair Ralph Kempf, Commissioners Denise Leskinen,Loren Schoenzeit,Kim Kang,Tess Rice, and <br /> Alternate Janice Berg. Representing Staff were Assistant City Administrator for Long-Term Strategy <br /> Michael Gaffron,Planning and Zoning Coordinator Melanie Curtis and Recorder Jaclde Young. Council <br /> Member James Murphy was present. <br /> Chair Kempf called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> CONSENT AGENDA <br /> Item Nos.4, 5, and 6 were added to the Consent Agenda. <br /> Chair Kempf asked whether the Neves are agreeable to painting the shed the same color as the main <br /> structure on the property. <br /> Jim Neve stated they would be painting the shed the same color as the main structure. <br /> Chair Kempf opened the public hearing at 6:38 p.m. <br /> There were no public comments regarding Items 4, 5, and 6. <br /> Chair Kempf closed the public hearing at 6:38 p.m. <br /> Berg moved,Rice seconded,to approve the Consent Agenda as amended. VOTE: Ayes 5,Nays 0. <br /> *1. APPROVAL OF PLANNING COMNIISSION MEETING MINUTES OF JULY 20,2009 <br /> Berg moved,Rice seconded,to approve the minutes of the Orono Planning Commission meting of <br /> July 20,2009, as submitted. VOTE: Ayes 5,Nays 0. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 2. #05-3164 CITY OF ORONO, CONSERVATION DESIGN ORDINANCE,6:35 P.M.— <br /> 6:58 P.M. <br /> Gaffron stated in 2004,the City Council hired a consulting firm to design values that make up its rural <br /> character,which has become lrnown as the Orono Rural Oasis Study. A principal goal of the study was to <br /> identify methods to preserve and enhance those values while at the same time allowing for continued <br /> residential development. The resulting"Conservation Design"development parameters embraced by the <br /> City have been found to have equal applicability to rural density development. However, implementation <br /> of these parameters has to date been unstructured since an ordinance formalizing them has never been <br /> adopted. <br /> PAGE 1 <br />
