ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR MARCH 8, 1999 <br />• MAYOR AND COUNCIL REPORT - Continued <br />Flint said the City should enforce the rules when there are complaints from citizens. <br />Moorse said the staff does respond to complaints. He said the City does not have a housing <br />ordinance that requires residents to keep houses from becoming dilapidated. <br />Jabbour said that if someone is actually working on cars in a professional manner, it would fall <br />under the home occupation ordinance and would be regulated. <br />Sansevere said he received a call from Dave Peterson who would like the City to look into <br />metering private wells. Peterson feels his mother's sewer bill is too high for a single, elderly <br />person. <br />Jabbour said it would be very expensive to install the meters and hire the staff to read the <br />meters. <br />Moorse said it would not be cost efficient. He commented that there is no special rate for a <br />senior citizen. <br />Mayor asked if the sump pump inspections are being done. <br />• Moorse said inspections have been done in some areas of the City and very few violations <br />were found. <br />is <br />Jabbour said that members of the Metropolitan Council are up for reappointment. He <br />suggested that the City send a letter to encourage the nominating committee to reappoint <br />Mary Hill Smith and Martha Head to the Metropolitan Council. <br />Jabbour moved, Kelley seconded, a motion directing the City Administrator to contact <br />Martha Head and Mary Hill Smith and if they still want to serve on the Metropolitan <br />Council, to send a letter to the head of the nominating committee encouraging the <br />reappointment of Mary Hill Smith and Martha Head.
