.� 01h� <br />O O <br />V$k ti <br />0 <br />S/ <br />CITYof ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION NO. 3057 <br />SHING SALARIES FOR CITY EMPLOYEES FOR 1992 <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Orono, <br />Minnesota that initial salaries and wages for City employees be established <br />as follows, effective January 1, 1992: <br />NAME <br />POSITION <br />a` <br />SHO <br />1991 SALARY 1992 SALARY <br />CITY of ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. 3055 <br />A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR REPEAL OF PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY <br />WHEREAS, the statute establishing the Presidential <br />Primary was initially adopted without legislative hearings; and <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature has not provided reimbursement <br />of local government costs for conducting the primary; and <br />WHEREAS, the Presidential Primary is designed to provide <br />voters an opportunity to express preferences for the nomination <br />of presidential candidates by. major national <br />and political parties; <br />WHEREAS, the statute establishing the Presidential <br />Primary (M.S. 207A) requires voters to declare which political <br />party ballot they will receive prior to casting their vote; and <br />WHEREAS, such political party voter identification will <br />become public information and a permanent record on the voter <br />registration file; and <br />WHEREAS, such records will be available for political <br />campaign activities, including canvassing and fund-raising; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose and effect of the balloting <br />conducted during the Presidential Primary are unrelated to the <br />actual election of candidates to public office; and <br />WHEREAS, the outcome of the Presidential Primary <br />balloting will not determine the election of candidates to public <br />office in Minnesota or at the national level. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of <br />the City of Orono, Minnesota, call on the State Legislature to <br />repeal the statute establishing the Presidential Primary to <br />eliminate requirements for local government to fund the costs of <br />the primary since such balloting is essentially a political party <br />activity which should not be financed with tax revenues. <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, <br />Minnesota at a regular meeting held December 9, 1991. <br />-- t� <br />AT ST:; Barbara A.
