 , _ -P TES TING NC. Steven B. Schirmers • MPCA Cert.No. 627
951 Katydid Lane NE • St. Michael, MN 55376 • (612) 497-3566
FAX (612)-497-5011
State License#394
Aprif 16, 1998
Paul Taylor
3075 Farview Lane
Orono, Henn. Co., MN
This site has an existing on-site sewage treatment system which is classified as failed
under Minnesota Chapter 7080 due to not meeting a 3' separation from the bottom of the
system and the mottled soil (highest known seasonally saturated soil). It appears that
there may have been some surface discharging in the area of the tanks. The tanks
were just pumped and were not actually surface discharging at the time of my
inspection. If surface discharging occurs in the future, this is classified as an imminent
health hazard and the system must be repaired or disconnected within 10 months. To
properly treat septic effluent, a new system will need to be installed.
This on-site sewage treatment system is designed for a Type 1, four bedroom home, in
accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local
ordinances.
The soils on this site are SCS soils mapped - HbB - Hayden loam. The seasonally
saturated soils were located at 24" to 30" (mottled soil). Due to the seasonally saturated
soils, a Pressurized Mound System will need to be installed to treat septic effluent. The
bottom of the treatment area must be located at least 3' above the saturated soils.
The neighboring well to the south is greater than 50' away from the proposed treatment
area, city code requires 75'. Approval will be needed from the city for the neighboring
well to be 64' from the new system and 53' from the well on this site.
The soils at a depth of 12" have a percolation rate averaging 3.3 mpi.
1
