MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, November 14, 2005 <br />•7:00 O'clock p.m. -- - <br />(Public Comments, Continued) <br />White stated he would like to hear from the <br />company on this item. <br />Sansevere commented the homeowner has the right to assume that their sewer system will not back up <br />into their residence whenever they use the system.i Sansevere stated the City has to be aware of the <br />possibility that someone who experiences this type of sewage backup could come down with a medical <br />condition, which would cause a much bigger problem and that the City and the insurance company cannot <br />turn a blind eye to the situation. <br />Anderson stated she would like to take care of this"situation as soon as possible. <br />Murphy inquired what cleanup still has to be <br />Anderson indicated an environmental cleanup crew called Quantum was called out to their residence the <br />day the backup happened and that the residence has been gutted. Anderson stated her husband and <br />nephew are in the process of putting the residence back together. <br />Peterson indicated the Council was not aware of this situation until tonight. <br />• Anderson stated the representative from the insurance company was not very helpful and attempted to <br />place the blame on them for this backup. Anderson inquired what steps she should take to prevent this <br />from happening again. <br />Gappa stated the City does have some options they can consider, such as putting in a backup generator or <br />a new lift station. <br />McMillan recommended the City look at this particular situation as soon as possible. <br />Peterson inquired how long it would take Gappa and Moorse to review the City's options to remedy this <br />situation. <br />Sansevere requested the City Engineer look at this situation tomorrow and that this item be put on <br />Tuesday's work session agenda. <br />Gappa indicated they are in the process of obtaining prices for a new lift station. <br />It was the consensus of the City Council to discuss this item at their November 15'h work session. <br />Murphy stated the City would get back to the Anders ons by Wednesday afternoon. <br />Anderson distributed documentation going back to the 1990's regarding this problem to the Council. <br />3 <br />
