MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, April 26, 2004 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT, Continued <br />Roe stated that 700 people attended the breakfast. On another matter, he reported that resident Sam <br />Marfield donated a 2001 pickup truck with only 7,000 miles to the department, which was greatly <br />appreciated. <br />Murphy stated that, as always, he is impressed by the relationship forged between these three <br />communities and thanked the two for their commitment. He asked how the new firefighters were <br />doing. <br />DuCharme stated that the firefighters had completed their testing and the department is in a holding <br />pattern awaiting the results. He was confident the outcome would be successful. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />5. Regular Council Meeting of April 12, 2004 <br />Page S, paragraph 2, the last line was amended to read, "He stated that in the past there was a lack <br />of coordination efforts from Long Lake." <br />White moved, Mayor Peterson seconded, to approve the Minutes of April 12, 2004, as <br />amended. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />0 <br />PARK COMMISSION COMMENTS —,Debora Halvorson <br />Halvorson thanked the Council for their support for increased use of Bederwood Park ball fields. • <br />She stated that the Commission would be meeting next week and continues to focus their efforts on <br />prioritizing park needs and establishing long range park plans. <br />With the likelihood that the conversion of the Dakota line will take place, Murphy suggested the <br />Park Commission begin strategic planning for this trail. <br />Halvorson stated that the Commission has started to identify areas for potential rest stops along the <br />trail, including Old Crystal Bay Park and the planned park area north of the Navarre Fire Station. <br />When available, Murphy suggested the Council and Commission hold a joint meeting to discuss <br />these options. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION COMMENTS — Jim Leslie <br />Although he had nothing to report, Leslie stated that he would be available for questions. <br />LMCD REPORT — Debora Halvorson <br />Due to the imminent threat of zebra mussels contaminating Lake Minnetonka, Halvorson stated <br />that an exotics subcommittee has determined with the DNR that increased inspections will take <br />place over the summer months at many landings, including Gray's Bay, Maxwell Bay, North Arm <br />Bay, and Wayzata Bay landings.
