MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, April 26, 2004 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />*13. #04 -3005 SIGN ORDINANCE AMENDMENT, SECTION 78 -1466 — ORDINANCE NO. <br />6,3 rd SERIES <br />Murphy moved, White seconded, to adopt ORDINANCE NO. 6,3 d Series, a Sign Ordinance <br />Amendment, Section 78 -1466, which defines pylon and monument signs, and amends <br />language regarding the signs allowed within Business and Industrial Districts. VOTE: Ayes 5, <br />Nays 0. <br />*14. #04 -2997 CITY OF ORONO — BIG ISLAND ACCESS — VARIANCES /CONDITIONAL <br />USE PERMIT — RESOLUTION NO. 5165 <br />Murphy moved, White seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5165, a Resolution approving <br />the necessary variances and CUP for the proposed wetland alteration to improve Big Island <br />access between Lots 38 and 39, Morse Island Park. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />*15. ACCESSORY STRUCTURE RETENTION AGREEMENT — 25 ORONO ORCHARD <br />ROAD NORTH <br />Murphy moved, White seconded, to authorize the execution of an agreement that would allow <br />the garage to remain at 25 Orono Orchard Road North. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />MAYOR/CITY COUNCIL REPORT <br />• <br />N <br />Mayor Peterson stated that she'd received a letter from Representative Barb Sykora's office <br />offering a briefing. She asked if the Council would be interested. • <br />White stated that he would like to hear from her office, especially on issues related to education, <br />etc. <br />Sansevere reported that the power squadron had inquired about removing metal from the property <br />adjacent to theirs, which he believed was Hennepin Parks land. <br />McMillan invited the Council members to attend a workshop Thursday evening at St. George <br />regarding the turn back of Highway 12. <br />Moorse indicated that he had also extended the invitation to both Park and Planning Commissions. <br />White questioned the apparent clear cutting along the Luce Line by the DNR. <br />Murphy stated that he'd met with a representative from Xcel Energy about the tree `trimming', and <br />left believing that he made little dent in their philosophy. Essentially, they have been and will be <br />clear cutting under and near their power lines to eradicate exotics and reclaiming an area 15' from <br />the power lines. <br />McMillan added that it is the DNB's opinion that Xcel is doing them a favor by removing exotics, <br />but many other varieties are being impacted as well.
