Even a nearby lightning stril►e that dces not stril:e a structune
directly can cause metallic systems in the structure to become energized. If these types of systems are
not properly bondcd, the dil'erence in potcntial between the systems may cause thc charge to arc fnom
one system to anotler system. Arcing can cause damage to CSST. Bonding and grounding as set
fortti above should reduce the risl:of arcing and related damage.
Depending upon conditions specific to the location ofe shucture in which the WARDFLEX°D
system is being installed, including but not limited to whether or not the anea is prone to lightning, the
owner of the structure should consider whether or not a lightning protection system is necessary or
apprnpriate. Lightning protection systems are beyond the scope of this bulletin, but are covered by
NFPA 780,which is the Standard for the Installation of Lightniag Protection Systems, and other
standards.
Scanned by CamScanner
.eleased On: 9/23/2008
