MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday,.July 22, 2002 . <br />6:30 o'clock p.m. <br />( #20) JOINT FIRE STATION ACCOUNT - EXCESS FUNDS <br />Murphy stated that the time has come to split the difference of the estimated $850,000 leftover in <br />the account between Long Lake and Orono. The Fire Station looks great and has come in within <br />budget. <br />Murphy moved, Sansevere seconded, to authorize the withdrawal of $850,000 from the <br />Joint Fire Station Account, to be divided evenly between the Cities of Orono and Long <br />Lake. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 0. <br />*( #21) RENEWAL OF MAPLE PLAIN FIRE AGREEMENT <br />Sansevere moved, Murphy seconded, to authorize non - renewal of the Maple Plain Fire <br />Service Agreement for 2003, if the City of Maple Plain does not agree to hold the 2003 fire <br />service costs to the contracting cities at the 2002 level. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 0. <br />*( #22) RESIGNATION OF MARC DAVIS, BUILDING INSPECTOR <br />Sansevere moved, Murphy seconded, to accept the resignation of Marc Davis from the is <br />position of Building Inspector effective July 9, 2002. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 0. <br />( #23) AGREEMENT FOR BAD CHECK PROGRAM <br />Sansevere asked if it was a good idea to submit names of first time bad check offenders into the <br />program automatically. He stated that first time offenders often have inadvertently written a bad <br />check and it would not be right to subject them to this program. <br />Moorse agreed, stating that the program seemed somewhat severe for someone who writes one <br />bad check. <br />Attorney Barrett questioned whether an offender would be someone who has already been <br />charged with a misdemeanor and then put into the diversion program. <br />Sansevere asked if Barrett was familiar with this program. <br />Barrett acknowledged that he was unfamiliar with this diversion program and recommended <br />holding off on enrolling until further investigation could be completed. <br />Mayor Peterson moved, Murphy seconded, to table the bad check program agreement <br />between Retailer's Protection Association and the City of Orono until further investigation. <br />VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 0. r <br />PAGE 34 of 35 <br />
