City of ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. 2540 <br />20. Provide a fire warning system. Detectors shall be mounted <br />on the ceiling or wall at a point centrally located in the <br />corridor or area giving access to rooms used for sleeping <br />purposes. Smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from <br />the building wiring. The wiring shall be permanent and without a <br />disconnecting switch, other than those required for over -current <br />protection. Smoke detectors shall also be installed in the <br />basement of the dwelling unit. Such detector shall be connected <br />to a sounding devise other or other detector to provide an alarm <br />which will be audible in the sleeping area pursuant to UBC 1210. <br />Provide emergency escape window in each bedroom. All escape or <br />resue windows from sleeping rooms shall have a minimum net clear <br />opening of 5.7 square feet. The minimum net clear opening height <br />dimension shall be 24 inches. The minimum net clear opening <br />width dimension shall be 20 inches. Where windows are provided <br />as a means of escape or rescue they shall have a finished sill <br />height not more than 44 inches above the floor. Pursuant to UBC <br />• 1204. <br />21. Remove flooring and floor joists on first floor and correct <br />3-4" drop which is caused by structural failure of walls below. <br />22. All wiring, including exterior, must be checked by a master <br />electrician due to poor maintenance and deteriorating conditions <br />of structure pursuant to NFPA Section 70.. <br />23. Remove all earth covering wood siding and remove all decayed <br />siding and wood and replace pursuant to UBC Section 2516 (c)(3). <br />Wood cannot be within 6" to earth. <br />24. All weather exposed surfaces shall have a weather resistive <br />barrier to protect the interior wall coverings. Such barrier <br />shall be equal to that provided in the UBC Standard #17-1. All <br />exterior materials must be approved for exterior use and <br />properly installed pursuant to UBC Section 2516 '(g)(1). <br />If the repairs are not completed or unless an answer is filed <br />within twenty (20) days from the date of service of this order, the City <br />shall move the District Court for summary enforcement of this order. <br />That the City Council of the City of Orono hereby authorizes and <br />directs the Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and other officers and <br />employees of the City to take such action, prepare, sign and serve such <br />papers as are necessary to comply with this order and to assess the with <br />hereof against the real estate described above for collection along <br />taxes. <br />Page 6 of 7 <br />
