Dickey Lake Drive
Orofao, Minnesota
Wetland Delineation Report
I. INTRODUCTION
The 2.45-acre Dickey Lake Drive site was inspected on April 19, 2016 for the presence and
extent of wetland. The property was located in Section 34, Township 11 SN, Range 23W, Orono,
Hennepin County, Minnesota. The site was located north of Dickey Lake Drive and east of
Willow Drive N (Figure 1). The site limits correspond to Hennepin County PID
3411823220005.
The site consisted mainly of mixed coniferous deciduous woodland. Surrounding land use to the
north, west and east consisted of single-family houses. Commercial land use includinthe Otten
Brothers Garden Center was located south of the site, while the Orono High School was located
nearby to the west.
Four(4) wetlands were identified and delineated within the site boundaries (Figure 2).
II. METHODS
Wetlands were identified using Routine Detennination methodology described in the Corps of
Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (Waterways Experiment Station, 1987) and Regional
Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Midwest Region (Version
2.0) as required under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and the Minnesota Wetland
Conservation Act.
Wetland boundaries were identified as the upper-most extent of wetland that met criteria for
hydric soils, hydrophytic vegetation, and wetland hydrology. Wetland-upland boundaries were
marked with pin flags and were surveyed by Sathre-Bergquist, Inc.
Soils, vegetation, and hydrology were documented at a representative location along the wetland-
upland boundary. Plant species dominance was estimated based on the percent aerial or basal
coverage visually estiinated within a 30-foot radius for trees and vines, a I S-foot radius for the
shrub layer, and a 5-foot radius far the herbaceous layer within the community type sampled.
Soils were characterized to a minimum depth of 18-24 inches (unless otherwise noted) utilizing
Munsell Soil Color Charts and standard soil texturing methodology. Hydric soil indicators used
in reporting are froin Field Indicatars of Hydric Soils in the United States (USDA Natural
Resources Conservation Service in cooperation with the National Technical Committee far
Hydric Soils, Version 7, 2010).
2
