City of ORONO <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />NO. <br />2584 <br />EURASIAN WATER MILFOIL CONTRIBUTION <br />TO THE LAKE MINNETONKA CONSERVATION DISTRICT <br />WHEREAS, <br />Eurasian Water Milfoil has in the last two to <br />three years become <br />a significant problem on Lake Minnetonka, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />such weed growth has a detrimental affect on <br />the aquatic.life of <br />the lake, and <br />WHEREAS, this problem also exhibits itself by <br />interfering with <br />many of the recreational aspects of the lake <br />together with making it estheticly unpleasing, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />the short time that it has been on the lake it <br />has rapidly spread <br />to all the major bays on the lake, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />this weed can be easily transmitted to other <br />lakes in the State <br />of Minnesota and have a negative impact on its <br />. tourist and recreational <br />quality of life, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District has <br />proposed a program <br />to assist in the control of this weed through <br />the harvesting and <br />r-emoval of it over a long period of time, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />there have been no budgetings done for this <br />program within the <br />L.M.C.D. budget, and <br />WHEREAS, <br />the L.M.C.D. has requested assistance from <br />several sources <br />including public donations, Hennepin County <br />Public Works and <br />the municipalities that make up the Lake <br />Minnetonka Conservation <br />District, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono feels that this is a <br />significant issue and is willing to donate to this cause. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Orono <br />agrees to contribute $15,000.00 to the effort, provided that the <br />other municipalities in the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District <br />
