The rock bed has soil
badly mixcd in with the rock. Testing the distribution manifold proved that effluent was getting to the entire
manifold, yet the effluent peculated to the surface before getting to remote areas of the rock bed. Only after
5 minutes would effluent begin to distribute to the entire rock bed. Installing a uew rock core was considered
but borings into the underlying sand showed the sand bed to be limited dimension with very wet soil
underneath. A new lager system for 5 bed rooms was desired too.
Thereforthis on site sewage treatment system is designed for a type 1, 5 bedroom home with out a garbage
disposal or 75U gal lons per day maximum use or an average use of 2/3 of this amount on day in day out
basis. The tanks need to be kept shallow above the shallow seasonal ground water. Construction should
begin only after reviewal by the local building inspector and after obtaining the permit. Construction should
be done in accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local ordinances by a
MPCA cc;rtified contractor.
The iniormation for this design is gathered from the several spots checked. lf the constructor discovers
anything the spot findings(like springs high water table, high mottling, fill, etc),he shall consult with me
immediatly to see if aily modification of the design is necessary. If he doesn't he is proceeding at his own
risk.
The constructor shall be allowed however to angulate the system to fit the nuances of the site. The
suggested tank locations and well location can be modified.Just make sure all setbacks, pump requirements,
drainac; Irczing, etc. considerations are made.
The soils on this site are mapped as LrB, lester loam). Mottling indicates a seasonally saturated soil at
18" on tlc primary site. Therefore a pressurized mound is required. By code the mound rockbed must be
installed 3' above this seasonally saturated soil.
1he soils at a depth of 12" have an average percolation rate of 31 minutes per inch on the primary site
and meet the guidelines for treating septic effluent. The design is based on the rate of 31 -45 MPI that is
appropriate for loam classified top soil.
NOTE
The recipient of this report must see that some one fence off or whatever is necessary to keep the sites
from being compacted. Driving over the site compacts the soil, decreasing its ability to treat effluent-even to
the point of some lucal building official considering the site unsuitable.
SOIL SUREACE PRLPARATION
The total area selected for the mound shall be roughened up to thoroughly break up any sod layers and to
provide a suitable transition zone between the original soil and the sand. The area shall be roughened only
when the soil to 12" below the surface is drier than the ptastic limit according to AASHO designation: T 90-
61. Backhoe teeth or chisel type plowing may be used.Care must be taken so as not to compact or puddle
deeper soils. In no case shall any surface soil be removed frorn the area.
