MINUTES OF THE ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING <br />• HELD JULY 20, 1992 <br />ZONING FILE #1748 - CONT. <br />Cohen asked what is the hardship. <br />Hovland stated they need that large of a garage for their vehicles <br />and storage. <br />It was moved by Johnson, seconded by Cohen, to recommend denial of <br />Application #1748 for Bob Hovland, 1245 North Arm Drive, for a <br />conditional use permit and variance. Ayes 4, nays 0. <br />( #6) #1750 CHARLES & SHIRLEY PYLE, <br />3548 IVY PLACE - <br />VARIANCE - PUBLIC HEARING 7:31 - 7:35 P.M. <br />The Affidavit of Publication and Certificate of Mailing were noted. <br />Charles and Shirley Pyle and their architect, Daryl Hanson, were <br />present for this application. <br />Johnson expressed his concern about the loss of trees and the <br />intensification of the lot coverage. <br />Mr. Pyle explained that they originally intended to attached the <br />garage, but because of the layout of the house, it was not <br />feasible. He advised that one of the trees to be removed has a <br />disease already. <br />Mrs. Pyle said they were not opposed to replanting trees. <br />Cohen asked if the applicants were willing to consider deleting the <br />roofed area. <br />Hanson stated the applicants are willing to decrease the roofed <br />area by 200 s . f . He noted that part of the area is covered by a <br />trellis. <br />Mabusth reported that the City has taken the position that a <br />trellis area is not hardcover. <br />is 7 <br />Mabusth explained <br />that the applicants <br />propose to relocate an <br />existing detached <br />garage closer to the <br />residence and install a <br />patio area and a <br />family room addition. <br />All structures meet the <br />required side setback. <br />There is 663 s.f. <br />of roofed structure to be <br />• <br />placed over paved <br />walkways and patio. <br />There is a decrease in <br />hardcover, but an <br />increase of 9.1% in structural <br />hardcover.
