MINUTES OF THE
ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
Monday, May 19, 2003
6:00 o'clock p.m.
(#5 #03-2889 RAVIA REAL ESTATE, LLC, Continued)
Jackie Ricks, 2108 Sugarwoods Drive, stated that she had phoned Gaffron about receiving
the brochure. She indicated that she, too, believed the use was too intense for just 2 acres.
Ms. Ricks stated that she would like to see the number of rentals reduced even further,
perhaps by two more. As the dumpster was nearest her property, she asked about its
placement and time trash pickup would occur.
Karlson indicated that they were open to a better location, however, he could not guarantee
pick up at a certain time.
Rahn suggested limitations be put on the hauler in terms of pick up times, and believed the
noise ordinances, restricting noise prior to 7AM and after 8PM, would suffice.
Gaffron felt they could address this concern by attempting to get a daytime hauler.
Karlson ensured the neighbor that the dumpster location would be completely enclosed and
shielded.
Ms. Mileusnic stated that she was more skeptical about the elevations, since the
construction of the apartment buildings, as they were much more obtrusive than the
residents were first led to believe.
Karlson stated that it was their intent to be good neighbors and believed the apartment
buildings next door would tower over their buildings.
Gaffron reminded the residents that the development would be built on higher elevations to
begin with and might appear higher as a result. He suggested the applicant put together a
side by side elevation comparison between their proposal and the neighboring apartments.
Revering asked what the next step would be.
Gaffron indicated that, if approval was recommended this evening, Ravia would then seek
concept plan approval from the City Council which defines all that is necessary in the final
plans.
Bremer moved, Hawn seconded, to recommend approval of Application #03-2889,
Ravia Real Estate, LLC,2060 Wayzata Boulevard, PUD—General Concept Plan
Review/Preliminary Plat Review, subject to staff recommendations. VOTE: Ayes 6,
Nays 0.
