MINUTES OF THE
ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
Monday,May 20,2002
6:30 o'clock p.m.
(#02-2766 WILLIAM KEEFE, Continued)
Mabusth believed that in this case the sightlines are not obstructed by the shed's current location but
might be if it were moved back, especially for the homeowners themselves.
Hawn stated that she did not see the hardship allowing him to keep the existing shed in its current
location; however, she did see merit in giving him time before it needs to be removed, in order to allow
the Commission to examine new dimensions for lock boxes.
Kluth agreed, stating that he doesn't want to ask Mr. Keefe to tear it down, but merely move it instead.
Smith was in favor of moving, tearing down, or downsizing the structure. She stated that she was
uncomfortable with the idea of changing the current lock box size in order to allow bigger structures by
the lake.
Mabusth agreed that the structure should be moved in lieu of a smaller lock box.
Fritzler stated a lockbox would be workable since there is a 2-car garage and storage on the property.
Rahn asked Keefe to move the structure to a conforming location and build a lock box.
Bremer indicated that in her opinion, many awful looking structures are going to remain and people will
be discouraged to maintain them.
Smith moved,Kluth seconded,to deny Application#02-2766,William Keefe,2216 Shadywood
Road, after the fact variances allowing a shed to remain within 75' of lakeshore and encouraged the
applicant to move the shed to a conforming location or size.
