MINUTES OF THE
ORONO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
Monday,May 20,2002
6:30 o'clock p.m.
(#02-2790 GRETCHEN SHAW,Continued)
Weinberger noted that in a letter from the applicant, the project was not completed within one year of the
approval due to family illness. The application is ultimately for dormer expansion, rather than a complete
2nd story addition as approved in 1999,which will have a reduced visual impact from the lake and
adjacent neighbors. Weinberger explained that because the work is within the approved envelope of the
original variance, the City normally approves the plan.
Based on the fact that the property conditions have not changed and there have been no code revisions,
Weinberger stated that staff recommends approval of the after-the-fact renewal application subject to the
conditions as noted in Resolution No. 4264.
Lyle Shaw, property owner, was in attendance.
Weinberger noted that the application is a request for less than what was originally approved.
There were no public comments.
Hawn moved,Mabusth seconded, approving Application#02-2790, Gretchen Shaw, 1750
Shadywood Road, renewal of after-the-fact variances previously granted subject to the conditions
of Reslolution No.4264. With regard to the Comprehensive Plan, this proposed dental office use is
in conformity with the Orono Community Management Plan of 2000-2020 which guides this property for
Commercial Office use.
PAGE 11
