Turner
Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2010 2:09 PM
To: 'a.smith@hp.com'
Subject: Deck Permit for your house
Mr. Smith:
Before the building official reviews the your plans for compliance with the building code the
Planning Department checks for compliance with the zoning code. It seems that the new
deck will satisfy all the zoning code requirements. But because the survey you submitted
dates from 1971 I had to look through old permits to determine what the hand drawn lines
mean. (I did this only to ensure that the deck would probably satisfy the setback
requirements before I asked for a survey.)
After 39 years the survey needs to be updated. It needs to show:
• The existing house and the proposed deck with distances to all four property lines
from the closest point of the house and proposed deck.
• The location of the Stubbs Bay Creek shoreland district boundary (300' from the
creek) and hardcover calculations for any portion of the property with this shoreland
district.
To keep the process moving I will have the building official review the plans while you are
obtaining the updated survey, but the survey is needed to issue the permit.
If you will be excavating more than 50 cubic yards you need to obtain an erosion control
permit from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (www.minnehahacreek.or). If you
don't need this permit erosion control measures but be shown on a second copy of the
survey.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Evelyn Turner
City Planner
City of Orono
952-249-4623
952-249-4616 (fax)
1
