MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, March 14, 2016 <br />7:00 o’clock p.m. <br />_____________________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Page 4 of 37 <br /> <br />PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER’S REPORT <br /> <br />Public Works Director/City Engineer Edwards reported the Public Works Department has started doing <br />some street sweeping. The seasonal weight restrictions are posted and are being enforced on all the city <br />roads. <br /> <br />Edwards stated some force main jetting has commenced, which corresponds with what was done with the <br />sewers last year. The Public Works employees have also been in the process of obtaining their continuing <br />education requirements for water and sewer. <br /> <br />*5. WATERTOWN ROAD WITH LONG LAKE DESIGN APPROVAL <br /> <br />Levang moved, Printup seconded, to accept the design for Watertown Road and to authorize the <br />solicitation of bids for the project. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br />*6. APPOINTMENT OF 2016 SEASONAL EMPLOYEES <br /> <br />Levang moved, Printup seconded, to approve the hiring of the seasonal employees listed in the <br />March 14, 2016, Staff memorandum. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br />*7. LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR HENNEPIN COUNTIES GREENCORPS GRANT <br /> <br />Levang moved, Printup seconded, to approve the letter of support for the Hennepin County <br />application for the Minnesota GreenCorps Grant. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br />PLANNING DEPARTMENT REPORT – JON SCHWINGLER, PLANNING COMMISSION <br />REPRESENTATIVE <br /> <br />*8. #16-3799 INTEGRITY REMODELING & DESIGN GROUP ON BEHALF OF <br />MATTHEW AND JAMIE HANSON, 2060 SPATES AVENUE, VARIANCES – RESOLUTION <br />NO. 6595 <br /> <br />Levang moved, Printup seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. , a Resolution Approving <br />Variances from Orono Municipal Zoning Code Sections 78-71(c), 78-305, 78-1431, and 78-1436 for <br />the Property Located at 2060 Spates Avenue. VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br /> <br />9. #16-3803 STONEWOOD, LLC, ON BEHALF OF TASHITAA TUFAA, 1830 <br />SHORELINE DRIVE, VARIANCES AND CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT <br /> <br />City Planner Curtis noted the City Council reviewed this application in February for variances and a <br />conditional use permit for grading in order to construct a new home on the currently vacant property. <br />Since that time, the applicant has made modifications to the proposal to address the Council’s concern <br />with the encroachment into the side street yard and reducing the encroachment of the footprint. The fence <br />height variance has been withdrawn. <br /> <br />Following additional meetings with neighbors, the applicants have provided a further revised plan on <br />Friday, which was emailed to the City Council.
