I met with Tom, the framing contractor
who explained the roof framing modifications in the upstairs bedroom to create
the trayed ceiling. Per my observation and analysis, the roof fiaming
moditications utilizing new LVL beains spanning between existing girder trusses
and additional 2x6 rafters to stiffen the existing roof trusses which were cut at the
bottom chord for the new raised ceiling is satisfactory. In my opinion, the revised
roof framing meets or exceeds the requirements of the building code for snow
loads and dead loads.
Two additional steel hangers are required to transfer the loads between the LVL
members. At the LVL beams intersecting at the corner of the bedrom, a steel
hanger is required to support the double 14" LVL beam. If a top flange type
hanger cannot be installed, four (4) 1/2" or 3/8" dia. thru bolts should be used
each side of the hanger instead. At the location where the lower LVL beam must
be supported by the upper LVL beam, four (4) 3x3x1/4" angles can be used as a
hanger. Three (3) 3/8" or 1/2" dia. tlu-u bolts are required at the lower beam and
four (4) thru bolts are required at the upper beam.
End of Memo
` `,``auniniunuriiii
,;` ,,D G. sT'%,,,,
;,,a•' ' '•. r
v . : •• O G
='` fisTeRo'•y'
= Ff;OFES'IONAL —
 "• EiJGIdEEfi ` _
',;'• 1?;'G ::
'%,,;a',°• . ....•.•,,,,,:
'''%,,,,„""\
331 2nd Avenue North 5uitc 200 Minneapoli5,MN 55401 612-341-9372 612-339-4783 fax 5trohengineering@worldne.Ai7.net
