C'Y o OKNO
Post Office Box 66•Cryatal Bay,Minnesota 55323•Municipal Offices

_ On the North Shore of Lake Minnetonka
September 11, 1990
Virgi. Larson
4305 Chippewa Lane
Mag1.e PXain, MN 55359
RE: Septic System
Dear Mr. Larson:
Our inspection of your septic system on Wednesday, August 22,
1990 , verif:ied that the system is in vioxation of the Orono On-
Site Sewag,• Treatment System Ordinance. The tiZe l.ine at the end
of the 1.ov,er drainfieXd extends to the surface of the ground,
a1.Xowing for a surface discharge to occur at any given time.
Because we have very I.ittZe information on the extent of your
system, we can onZy surmise that, based on site inspections, you
have two drainfiel.d trenches approximatel.y 100' in xength and
perhaps 2-3' wide. We have no soi1. testing on fiXe to verify the
capabi.ity of soi.s in which that system is I.ocated, hence we
cannot give a reasonabJ.e estimatvn of the actual. capabi.ity of
the system.
In order to remove the vio].ation, we woul.d recommend that you
hire a licensed septic system contractor to remove the 10-20'
section of drainfieJ.d trench which has no cover and which has a
pipe extending to the surface, and back fixl. that trench with
native cJ.ay I.oam material.. Once this is done, your system wix].
have no surface out].et. Because this surface outl.et may have
acted as a rel.ief overf I.ow, there is a possibZity that once this
is done, the system wi].1. not continue to function to treat and
I.egaly dispose of a].]. the sewage wastes entering it.
Because you are se7.].ing the home, we recommend that you discXose
this I.etter and our recommendations to the purchaser of the
property, since the City in no way is suggesting that remova3. of
the overfZow pipe wiJ.Z J.eave you with a system that is functional.
for the expected waste J.oad from a four bedroom house.
BUILDING&ZONING-473-7357 • ADMINISTRAT'ION&FINANCE-473-7358 • PUBLIC WORKS-473-7359
ASSFSSING FAX-473-0510
