The OWS was
deemed in non-compliance by others and in need of placement. The proposed OWS site is
predominantly vegetated with mowed Kentucky blue grss ith a few trees on an 8-14% slope.
Soil Conditions — The Hennepin County soil survey mappe the proposed drain field area as the Lester
Series. The Lester Series is the unofficial Minnesota state s il and is very common in Des Moines Lobe
glacial till deposits of central Minnesota, specifically Wright and Hennepin Counties.
A copy of the description for the Lester Series is included i Appendix A. The soil survey indicates the
soils in the Lester Series are very deep, well drained lo y soils formed in glacial till. Three soil
observation pits were completed in the area of the propos d drain field area, see Figure 1. The soil
profile descriptions closely matched the soil survey descripti n of the Lester Series in the proposed drain
 field location (S 1 and S2).
Soil observation pits 1 and 2 in the drain field area indicat the site is underlain by high chroma loam
and clay loam soils to approximately 6 feet. The parent m terial for the area, high chroma loam soils
with many threads of calcium carbonates (often misidenti ed as low chroma iron reductions), were
found to the depth of the borings. Few gray sand coatings o ped faces, calcium carbonates, and reddish
iron concretions (referred to as ochres in the geologic cultu ) were observed. These soil features are a
result of the soil parent material not a fluctuating seasonal w ter table.
Moving down slope (S3) yielded the observation of a perch d water condition at approximately 2.5 feet
below the surface. It is believed that a higher clay content i the Bt horizon and the increase watershed
area moving down slope causes an epi-saturation condition above the C-horizon parent material. This
area was avoided with the proposed drain field.
Two ercolation tests were erformed at the locations o Fi
P p gure 1. The depth of the tests were
, approximately 22 and 24 inches. The results of the tests wer favorable and are found in Appendix A.
 1
'
