� . � <br /> ., - <br /> � Cit� o�� ORONO � � <br /> .• � _ � � � � � � � <br />� RESOLUTION OF`THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> ' � ° <br /> i :� ' . � NO. 2039� � . <br /> • � • • <br /> ., <br /> .� � A JOI NT RESOLUTI ON OF THE CI TI ES OF ORONO 2 � � ��n� <br /> AND LOPdG LAKE DECLARING THE PJEED FOR D 15 lJ <br /> IMPROUEU HIGHWAY TRAFFIC REGULATION ALOI�G <br /> � PORTIONS OF U.S. TRUNK HIGHWAY 12 . �� ����� : <br /> . �;'.s, �.f�� � � �9$� <br /> !`;t` ; <br /> WHEREAS, the Cities of Orono and Long Lake are concerned `Yth-�th2--r�,�-;-��-�- ' <br /> safety and welfare of their citizens; and ,_ <br /> WHEREAS, U.S.� Trunk Highway 12 is a major arterial highwdy which, daily, <br /> carries 15,000 to 17,000 cars through, portions of both citi.es from the area of <br /> Lindawood Lane (on the east) to County Road 6 (on the west) ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Long Lake has in recent years experienced substantial <br /> residential , conimercial and industrial development along U.S. Trunk Highway 12 <br /> and will continue to experience more in the near future, which development has <br /> and will impact heavily upon the traffic upon said highway; and <br /> � WHEREAS, the City of Orono is presently undergoing a comprehensive study <br /> which may result in changing the zoning and land use structure of approximately <br /> 600 acres of land along U.S. Trunk Highway 12 from low density single family <br /> residential to a mixture of inedium densi,ty r.esidential , commercial and li,ght <br /> industrial uses (said study being known as the "Highway 12 Corridor Study"); -and <br /> 69HEREAS, the cities are concerned with the safe and reasonable traffic flows <br /> within their jurisdictional limits due to serious and dangerous flaws in traffic <br /> regulation along U.S. Trunk Highway 12, such as the• lack of a semaphore at its <br /> intersection with Willow Drive; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Orono and Long Lake <br /> declare that there is a need for increased traffic regulation, reduced speed and <br /> increased levels of caution along U.S. Trunk Highway .l 2 from Li•ndawood Lane. to <br /> County Road 6., east and west; <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLUED, that�Highway 12 and Willow Drive is declared a � <br /> dangerous intersection in need of a permanent semaphore. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this. resolution be delivered to the t�linnesota <br /> Department of Transportation for� the purpose of completing a study of the � <br /> traffic problems a1ong said portion of U,S, Highway 12 and implementation of <br /> new regulations and controls to improve the safety of traffic wi�thi,n the <br /> jurisdicti�onal limits of each city; � <br /> • Adopted by the City Council of Orono, Minnesota, at a regular meeting held <br /> Au st 25 , 1986. <br /> AT E T: �/ <br /> C <br /> . �,�,�..
