:--t . � <br /> clt� o� oRONO � <br /> • � RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> � Nq, 1915 <br /> • � • • <br />' A RESOLUTION REGARDING PARRING SLOTS FOR <br /> ZONE 1 AS DETERMINED BY METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S T�ISR FORCE <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Orono contains 4g� of the shoreline <br /> on Lake Minnetonka, and . <br /> WHEREAS, Lake Minnetonka is an extremely valuable <br /> natural and recreational resource, and <br /> WHERSAS, the City of Orono has gone to great lengths to <br /> not only preserve but also improve Lake Minnetonka for the public <br /> health, safety and welfare for all lake users and lakeshore <br /> owners, and <br /> • WHEREAS, a Task Force on Lake Minnetonka recommended <br /> among other items that 700 parking spots near free public <br /> accesses, of the existing 1, 172 be commited to be reliable spots <br /> for such use, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District has <br /> developed criteria and is seeking voluntary commitment of these <br /> spots , and <br /> WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council's Task Force on the <br /> issue is encouraging commitment of those 70�1 slots, and <br /> WH�R$AS, the Minnesota Department of �Natural Resources <br /> has purchased property on the Lake for additonal free public <br /> access , and <br /> WHEREAS, the safety of boaters on the lake is likely <br /> impaired by additional numbers of boats on the lake due to <br /> increased access, and <br /> WHE REAS , Zone 1, the only zone in which there is an <br /> existing free public access in Orono needing commitment of up to <br /> 79 additi:onal spots to reach 139 reliable spots in the zone, and <br /> WAEREAS, parking offsite of the public access on the <br /> • street can cause certain public safety � concerns, and <br /> WHEREAS , the demand for overflow parking for the <br /> Hendrickson access is limited to 6 to 8 times per season. <br /> 1 <br />
