I spoke to Travis Washek (DOB 12-18-73) of Washek Exteriors, Inc., 12116 Joanne Ln., Minnetonka, MN 55343. I reviewed the street file and found a survey of the property. The survey showed the house to be less than 50' from the front property line. The City requires a 50' setback for structures from the front property line so I informed Mr. Washek that the proposed deck would not be allowed in that location. Mr. Washek indicated that he understood and crossed the deck off of an application he had filled out for reroofing and a new deck. A permit was issued to Mr. Washek for the reroofing at that time. On August 1, 2006 I passed the property on the way to another property and observed a new deck being constnicted. I returned to the Orono City office to verify the address and found no permit far the deck. I sent Orono Building Inspector Bruce Vang to the site and he posted a Stop Work Order and ordered the workers to leave the site. The City is requesting you to file a conplaint against Mr. Washek for working without a building permit. Enclosed is a copy of the permit issued for reroofing, a copy of Mr. Washek's contractors license information, a copy of the survey and a photo of the deck. The City will also file a complaint with the State Commerce Department and inform the property owner that the deck needs to be removed. Thank you.
