5639
4.6 Preparation:
(Ensure that sub -base materials are structurally adequate to receive designed base
course, wearing course, and designed loads. Ensure that grading and soil porosity of the
sub -base will provide adequate subsurface drainage.)
A. Place base course material over existing surface, in lifts not to exceed 150 mm (6"),
compacting each lift separately to 92% minimum -95% maximum Modified Proctor. Leave
1" to 1.25' for Grasspave2 unit and sand or sod for Final Grade.
B. Base course depths - 6" (minimum) deep; 3" of #57 stone, under a mixture of 1" of
washed #89 (3/8" max) and 2" of clean, compactable, well draining fill sand compacted
with a motorized plate tamper or a riding roller compactor to 92% Modified Proctor. Base
placed over existing surface. This creates an ideal surface for Grasspave2. Stone to
sand ratio should be between 65/35 and 75/25.
