February 22, 2016

Kelly Grissman
Director of Planning
Three Rivers Park District
3000 Xenium Lane North
Plymouth, MN 55441

Dear Ms. Grissman,

On behalf of the City of Orono, we wish to share our support of a trail crossing safety study on the
Lake Independence Regional Trail at County Road 6 (CSAH6).

The Lake Independence Trail crosses county road 6 just east of the intersection with Old Crystal
Bay Road. The county road 6 traffic does not stop at the trail crossing or road intersection. Due
to vehicle speeds on at the crossing site getting across the road in a safe manner can be daunting;
especial with children. In addition Old Crystal Bay road serves all of the Orono Schools and
therefore the intersection with County road 6 is quite congested during prime school pick up and
drop off times. Enhancing the safety of this crossing would directly benefit the citizens in our
community, the Orono School District and all trail users. Motorist in the area would also benefit
from improvements at this intersection.

As a long standing partner with Three Rivers Park District we support your efforts to improve the
safety of the Lake Independence Regional Trail in our community. Projects such as this are
essential to making our city a place where people can choose to safely recreate, commute, and
engage in physically active lifestyles.

Thank you for considering this safety study and seeking funding for this project. If you have any
questions, please contact me at

Sincerely,

Lili McMillan
Mayor, City of Orono
