ORONO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />Date: January 15, 2016 <br /> <br />Item No: 9 <br /> <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Department Approval: Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> <br />Name: Correy Farniok JML <br />Title: Police Chief <br /> <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Item Description: Hiring of Full-Time Community Service Officer (CSO) <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> <br />The Orono Police Department currently has an opening for the position of full-time Community <br />Service Officer (CSO). This opening occurred when our current CSO Kyle Kirschner was <br />promoted to Full-Time Police Officer. A hiring process was conducted; the process included an <br />application process and several interviews. The field of applicants was narrowed and the top <br />applicant was determined. A background investigation was conducted and completed. <br /> <br />It is recommended that Mike Wocken be hired for the open position of Community Service Officer. <br /> <br />Mike Wocken has nearly 11 years of experience as a Community Service Officer. Wocken worked <br />as a Community Service Officer with the City of Mound for more than 9 years and for the City of <br />Minnetrista for more than a year. Wocken is currently working for the Elk River School District <br />as a Parking monitor. Wocken also has 12 years of experience as a correctional officer at <br />Minnesota Correctional Facility in Lino Lakes and St. Cloud. Wocken is detail orientated, <br />hardworking and has great communication skills. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Consider a motion to approve hiring of Mike Wocken to the position of Full-Time Community <br />Service Officer effective February 8, 2016. Starting wage to be $15.40 per hour (Grade 1- start <br />pay level).
