ORONO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />Date: January 25, 2016 <br /> <br />Item No: 8 <br /> <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Department Approval: Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> <br />Name: Correy Farniok JML <br />Title: Police Chief <br /> <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Item Description: Request to Hire Full-Time Police Officer <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> <br />An opening exists for a full-time police officer within the Orono Police Department. This opening <br />occurred when Phillip Spanjers was hired by the Edina Police Department in October 2015. At <br />present, Kyle Kirschner has successfully completed a Background Investigation including a <br />Psychological, Medical and Physical Agility Examinations. Kirschner completed the MN Peace <br />Officer licensing test on January 21st. <br /> <br />It is recommended that Kyle Kirschner be hired for the open position of Full-Time Police Officer. <br /> <br />Kyle Kirschner was hired as a Community Service Officer with the Orono Police Department on <br />March 18, 2013. Kyle has been an excellent employee for the City of Orono and performs his <br />duties as a Community Service Officer very well. Kyle has served our community and has <br />received several thank you letters because of his high level of customer service. Kyle has recently <br />completed his Associates of Applied Science Degree from Rasmussen College and is very excited <br />to become a police officer and continue serving the community. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> <br />Consider a motion to hire Kyle Kirschner as a full-time police officers with a start date of <br />February 16, 2016 at a pay rate of $25.35 (start pay level) and to enroll him in the Public <br />Employees Retirement Association (PERA) Police and Fire Plan. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
