ORONO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: January 11, 2016 <br />Item No: 9 <br />Department Approval: Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Name: Correy Farmok Y"-4 Public Safety <br />Title: Police Chief <br />Item Description: Adopt Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Joint Powers Agreement <br />(Renewal) <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Orono Police Department has a current Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) with the <br />Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The current JPA will expire shortly. The JPA <br />allows the Orono Police Department to use systems and tools available over the State's <br />criminal justice data communications network. By law (Minn. Stat. 471.59, sub. 1) the JPA <br />must be approved by City Council. This new JPA will remain in effect for five years from <br />the date approved by Council. <br />Joint Powers Agreement is attached. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Consider a motion to adopt a resolution and to approve the Joint Powers Agreement with <br />the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. <br />
