Protect previously painted surfaces, as well as adjacent work and materials by covering and masking during <br /> painting operations. <br /> D. Clean all surfaces to be painted of loose dirt and dust, oil, grease, mildew, form release agents, curing <br /> compounds, loose and flaking paint, rust, and other foreign substances. Maintain as such during painting <br /> operations. <br /> E. Wash previously primed or painted surfaces, rinse, and allow to dry - dull glossy areas by light sanding; <br /> remove sanding dust. <br /> F. Wash unprimed metal surfaces with mineral spirits before application of paint materials. <br /> G. Spot prime wood knots with acrylic latex bonding sealer/stain killer recommended by the primer manufacturer. <br /> H. Perform necessary filling of nail holes and cracks prior to application of final coat. Use filler of color to match <br /> that of finish, where applicable. <br /> I. Tint, mix and apply paint materials in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> J. Back-prime all exterior finished wood prior to installation, and prime all cut edges during installation. Use <br /> materials scheduled for first coat of paint system. <br /> K. Apply paint materials in even, thorough coats without runs, sags or blemishes. <br /> L. Unless otherwise specified herein or recommended by the paint manufacturer, coats shall be thoroughly dry <br /> before application of succeeding coats. <br /> M. Painting Schedule: <br /> 1. Exterior Wood Siding, Soffits and Trim: <br /> a. Wood Shingles: Two (2) coats semi-transparent oil stain; color as selected by the Architect <br /> b. Wood Soffits and Trim: One (1) coat solid alkyd stain; one (1) coat solid latex stain; color(s) as <br /> selected by the Architect. <br /> 633 SPECIFICATIONS <br /> Page 59 <br />
