We can accept the survey with hand drawn items added to show the approximate location, but if the surveyor
that signed the original survey wasn't the person who drew in the walls, the applicant will need to submit a copy
of the survey without the signature block.
2. Typically we require a new survey for this, but since this was a new house and they drew this on an as-built
drawing from last year we can accept it. I will require a new as-built survey once the project is complete to
show the improvements and wall height.
3. If the retaining wall exceeds 4' in height or a tiered retaining wall that is over 4' in height and not separated by
2x the height of the upper wall (as measured from the face of the upper wall to the back of the lower wall, it
will need to be designed by a registered professional engineer. If when I perform my as-built site review it does
not meet the requirements, the applicant will be required to have an engineer sign off on the construction after-
the-fact.
4. The retaining walls shown on the survey do not match the landscaping plan.
Jesse Struve, PE
Director of Public Works/City Engineer
City of Orono
(952) 249-4661- Direct
(952) 249-4616- Fax
www.ci.orono.mn.us
1
