Box 66
Orono, MN 55356 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066
Re: Private Well Certification
To Whom It May Concern:
The City of Orono has neither the means nor personnel to inspect existing private wells for current
physical or mechanical condition, and does not certify their condition. The City has adopted the
Minnesota Health Department Water Well Construction Code, which sets criteria for the
construction and location of wells. Since January 1, 1990,the Minnesota Health Department has had
sole jurisdiction regarding well code compliance.
The City does not have facilities to test private wells for water quality. Parties requesting a water
test for mortgage purposes are advised to contact a private testing laboratory. The City does not
certify water tests for mortgage purposes.
The City of Orono has no well inspection program, and does not have the means nor personnel to
inspect properties to to verify whether wells exist on the property or whether all wells on the property
have been legally abandoned.
At the request of a state-licensed water well contractor or homeowner, the City will inspect the
proposed location of any new well installation to assist in determining proper locations meeting
required sanitary setbacks. All other types of well inspections are referred to the Minnesota Health
Department (627-5100).
Sincerely,
' ?

Michael P.
