Purpose. The purpose of this item is to gain Council approval of the 2016 Public Works Plan and <br />associated engineering proposals. <br /> <br />2. Background. The 2016 Public Works Plan is an effort to improve the planning and budgeting of <br />Public Works and Engineering activities for the City of Orono. The intent of the plan is to: <br />a. Provide an increased level of detail and refinement on those items from the Capital Improvement <br />plan (CIP) that are scheduled for the upcoming calendar and fiscal year. <br />b. Improve the coordination/timing of projects. <br />c. Provide City Council a comprehensive list of work for approval early in the year in conjunction <br />with the CIP and Budget approvals. <br />d. Ensure that the Public Works and Engineering Department’s priorities and work items are <br />meeting Council intent and direction. <br />e. Identify items for planning and engineering the year prior to their execution. <br /> <br />3. 2016 Public Works Plan. The 2016 Public Works plan is attached as Exhibit A. Upon approval, the <br />public works and engineering staff will begin executing the plan. Many of the projects will require <br />further Council action for design approvals and/or award of contracts. A timeline for these actions is <br />included as part of the attached plan. <br /> <br />4. Engineer Proposals. Bolton and Menk has prepared proposals for the Engineering and planning of <br />projects in support of the 2016 Public Works plan. (Exhibits B-H) <br /> <br />Project Exhibit Proposal <br />(Not to <br />Exceed) <br />Monitoring and Alarm Upgrade (SCADA-Water & Sewer) B $ 13,700 <br />Well#1 Maintenance / Rehabilitation C $ 3,800 <br />Well #4 Design D $ 23,250 <br />2016 CIPP E $ 7,900 <br />Brown Road Trail Rehabilitation F $ 5,300 <br />Fox Street Feasibility Study G $ 24,000 <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to approve the 2016 Public Works Plan and associated engineer proposals.
