ORONO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: October 26, 2015 <br />Item No: 21 <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Department Approval: Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Name: Correy Farniok RJO City Administrator <br />Title: Police Chief <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Item Description: University of Minnesota – MN Resuscitation Consortium Grant <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />DISCUSSION: <br />In June the Orono Police Department submitted a grant to the MN Resuscitation Consortium. <br />The MN Resuscitation Consortium connects bystander, prehospital and hospital initiatives to <br />improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The MN Resuscitation Consortium is a <br />member of the Heart Rescue Project. The HeartRescue Project is a collaborative effort supported <br />by the Medtronic Foundation to increase sudden cardiac arrest survival rates in the United States. <br />The vision is for every American who suffers from a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) to receive <br />lifesaving, state-of-the-art care at the scene, enroute and in the hospital. Grants need to focus on <br />safety equipment or safety related projects. Funds were requested to assist with training supplies <br />and materials for the Lake Area Heart Safe Initiative. The Orono Police Department is a key <br />partner in the effort to train residents, business owners, youth sports groups, churches, and <br />community leaders in the effective use of CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). <br />The funding request was for $2000.00. <br />On October 20, 2015 the Orono Police Department was informed that a grant in the amount of <br />$2000.00 had been awarded to the City of Orono to assist with training supplies and materials to <br />be used toward the Lake Area Heart Safe Initiative. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to accept the $2000 grant from the University of MN – Resuscitation Consortium.
