He said that he would investigate, try
to locate the problem, and get back to me by the end of the
week. I received a copy of his letter to you on December 17,
and today made an outside inspection myself. The system
is overflowing the mound and into the street, causing a
health hazard and a safety hazard due to ice forming in the
street.
I concur with Mr. Widmer's opinion that some extraneous
source of water is causing your system to overflow. Based
on his observations, it seems likely that water from some
where enters the septic system between the tanks and the
known lines leaving the house. In my opinion you have three
recourses;
1. Contact the former caretaker and see if he knows
anything about the system and what could be causing the
flow.
2. Get a plumber to thoroughly investigate and evaluate
all plumbing systems in the house, including well and
water softener system, and drain lines, to see if there
is a locatable problem inside the house.
Failing these.
3. Starting at the manhole just past the septic tank,
excavate the entire system back toward the house until
the source of the extraneous water can be found and
/'shut off".
BUILDING A ZONING - 473-7357 ADMINISTRATION A FINANCE - 473-7358 PUBLIC WORKS - 473-7359
