O O <br /> �e. - CITY of ORONO <br /> � � <br /> ti <br /> ��L �G'�' RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> � �kESH�g' NO. ,� � 2 5 <br /> A RESOLUTION OPPOSING <br /> � VENDING OF FOOD OR MERCHANDISE <br /> � FROM WATERCRAFT ON LAKE MINNETONKA <br /> WHEREAS, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District has received a request to allow <br /> vending of food and/or inerchandise from watercraft on Lake Minnetonka; and <br /> WHEREAS,the vending of food and merchandise froin watercraft on Lake Minnetonka is <br /> • inherently unsafe due to the following aspects of such activity: <br /> 1. It requires that two or more boats approach each other and remain ui close proxiinity � <br /> . to one another, and may bring multiple boats together in a small area which is <br /> • inherently dangerous. � <br /> 2. It will tend to occur in the most congested areas of the lake in order to be financially <br /> feasible, creating an even more congested situation; and <br /> WHEREAS, any attempt to minimize the inherent unsafe aspects of sales activity in the <br /> open lake by inoving such activity near the shoreline will have a negative impact on the enjoyment <br /> and repose of Orono's residential lakeshore property owners by creating undue activity, commotion, <br /> noise, litter, exhaust fumes, etc.; and , <br /> WHEREAS, more than one-third of the shoreline of Lake Minnetonka is within the <br /> corporate boundaries of the City of Orono, and 98%of Orono's Lake Minnetonka shoreline is zoned <br /> for single family residential uses; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City's lakeshore land use regulations,including marina regulatioiis,are very <br /> restrictive to protect the lakeshore area; and <br /> WHEREAS,the permitting of the vending of food and/or merchandise from watercraft on <br /> Lake Minnetonka would be in total conflict with the City's lakeshore land use regulations; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the public interest that vending activity on Lake Miiinetonka be <br /> • prolubited due to the safety concerns and negative public impacts noted above. <br />
