Noerenberg Master Plan which you helped prepare for the Park <br />"e'""bM. , District. <br />Me:nll/ottenburq The Orono City Council has given final approval to the plan <br />:•- after a series of meetings before the Planning Commission an <br />& the City Council. The City Council asked that we reduce the <br />size of the hard -surface parking lot in the first phase of <br />plan implementation. As a result, r6ther than 50 paved <br />parking spaces, there will be 24, with the remainder to be <br />parked on grass on the outside of the traffic circle. (See <br />enclosed plan.) These can be hard -surfaced at a later date Of <br />use increases and need dictates. With that exception, the <br />plan was approved by the City as prepared by the Committee -- <br />and approved by the Park District Board. <br />We have developed architectural concepts for the buildings <br />included in the garden development. The concep-L for the <br />visitors' center is an open airy building with a large terrace <br />and walled garden adjoining it. The concept for the memorial <br />arbor tails for a semi -circular structure oriented toward the <br />gardeli with a center area consisting of the columns that were <br />salvaged from the porch of the house. (Enclosed is a copy of <br />the concept for each of the two structures.) <br />Use at Noerenberg has been brisk this summer. Total estimated <br />use is 10,300. A total of 36 weddings were held at Noerenberg <br />this year. For the first time, Hennepin Parks made available <br />foldirg chairs and a canopy to make wedding arrangements mere <br />convenient. These =-e available at a premium charge, but the <br />wedding parties seelr,-,1 very eager to use the services. <br />
