Date: March 9, 2026 Item: 12 <br />Presenter: Adam Edwards, City Administrator / Engineer <br />Section: City Administrator/Engineer Report <br /> <br />Title: Police Chief Resignation and Recruitment <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this action item is to accept Correy Farniok’s resignation and to inform the council <br />of plans to recruit the next Police Chief for the City of Orono. <br />2.Background: <br />The Police Chief position is a critical position within the City of Orono and contracted cities of <br />Mound, Minnetonka Beach and Spring Park. The position oversees the public safety for the <br />community. <br /> <br />Correy Farniok has indicated his intent to retire with his last day being May 30, 2026. Correy has <br />been an excellent Police Chief and valued member of staff for over 30 years. Correy started out as <br />an intern and then a Community Service Officer for Orono, being hired as a Part-Time Police <br />Officer on March 12, 1996. He became a Full-Time Police Officer on January 1, 1997, promoted <br />to Sergeant on July 11, 2000 and finally Police Chief on June 12, 2007. A proposal for a <br />resolution of recognition will be presented to the Council closer to his retirement date. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />The selection process for the vacant position will involve advertising the position, application <br />screening, interview panels, physical & psychological screenings and reference checking.
