The current ordinance The PHLC Smoke and Commercial Tobacco Free Outdoors policy <br />Comparing the current ordinance with the Public Health Law Center’s (PHLC) model outdoors ordinance (1/3) <br />Prohibits tobacco use in: <br />•Parks <br />•City facilities <br />•Inside motor vehicles owned <br />or operated by the city <br />•Inside motor vehicles at city <br />facilities and parks <br />Prohibits smoking or vaping (including cannabis) and commercial <br />tobacco use in indoor and outdoor areas of all city controlled: <br />•Facilities; grounds; parking lots; work areas; vehicles and equipment; <br />outdoor park and recreation areas, lands, and bodies of water; public golf <br />courses; playgrounds; beaches; swimming pools; nature areas; recreation <br />centers; and walkways, paths and trails <br />•Personal vehicles parked on property that is owned, leased, rented, or <br />otherwise used or controlled by the city <br />Smoking is not allowed within twenty-five (25) feet of entrances, exits, windows <br />and ventilation intakes of public places and places of employment <br />Orono Commercial Tobacco-Free Parks and Worksites | March 9, 2026 71
