There is something for <br />everyone The program includes "skill <br />sessions" and "issue institutes'' <br />throughout the three -and -a -half days of <br />the zonference. <br />"Skill sessions" are participatory <br />workshops which enable city officials to <br />enhance specific leadership abilities and <br />learn techniques which they can apply <br />back home in their community. Exam- <br />ples include: <br />• Listening for effective leadership <br />• Fostering innovation <br />• Future setting <br />• Teambuilding <br />• Marketing your city (three sessions) <br />• Serving your constituents (two <br />sessions) <br />• Streamlining council meetings <br />"Issue institutes" provide up-to- <br />date information on issues of impor- <br />tance to cities. Short <br />shots are structured discussions on <br />topics of special interest which stress <br />practical experience. Topics include <br />finding new revenue sources, working <br />with unions, wastewater treatment, <br />coping with mandates, preventing sex- <br />ual harassment, planning for and using <br />cable TV, and :n introduction to LMC. <br />This last one should be of special <br />interest to newly elected officials. <br />Special Friday program <br />A delicious finale breakfast will begin <br />at S 30 a.m. Following it will be what <br />many consider the highlight of the <br />conference. Layne Longfellow will offer <br />a presentation *hat is both personally <br />stimulating and professionally enrich- <br />ing. Longfellow is a riveting speaker <br />you can't afford to miss. We saved the <br />best for last. <br />Host city spectaculars <br />Be sure to arrive early on Tuesday, <br />June y, to hear some tales of Lake <br />Wobegon in one of Garrison Keillor's <br />last performances. Then enjoy an <br />unpara!led taste treat as the "Choco- <br />late Fantasy" is recreated under the <br />stars in the breath -taking, glass- <br />onclosed lobby of the rx-w Mayo Civic <br />Center. <br />N)n't plan on going to bed early on <br />%rdnesday.
