<br />At the request of the City of Orono, the applicant has agreed to reopen
<br />consideration of application 11216 that involved tbe drad;inq and re~~val
<br />of 1548 cubic yards of spoils from a designated watl1.u,ds,
<br />In the process of making borings in the area t.o be d:cedged, the contr.<1ctor
<br />discovered extensive pockets of yellow clay. !ha aoil'n stabili~y -
<br />cohesive, plastic qualities are excellent to:c City trJ use ill restoring arid
<br />widening shoulder areas of Bohns l?oint Road. Pleaae :-,ot.e thes,~ l(;Oil0 are
<br />not customary spoils ladened with .i:ich nutrierite. 'l'here is no danger of
<br />contaminating water quality of runoff to and from wotlands. Portions of
<br />the road right-of-way are located within the wetlands, The area of th~
<br />road restoration runs a distance of 130 feet adjacent to wetlDnds for~
<br />depth of 12 feet. The 650 cubic yards of clay will be deposited or filled
<br />within the east edge· of the wetland.
<br />Winslow has agreed to excavate the west edge of the existing wetland to
<br />compensate for filling on the east side of wetlands.
<br />Staff recommends approval ot the land alteration that would allow the
<br />filling of the designated wetlands located within the road right of way of
<br />Bohns Point Road based onc"these additional findings:
