Community Development and Redevelopment <br />Dated 1/3/86 <br />ISSUE - Updating of Council regarding progress in the Navarre <br />reTe—velopment proposed project area. <br />INTRODUCTION - As noted in the Administrator's Information of <br />March 1 7,T 87 a brief presentation was male by myself to the <br />business people at the Westonka Chamber meeting February 16, 1987 <br />in conjunction with the discussion of County Road 15. At that <br />meeting a request was made for individuals from the business <br />community (including the property owners from the area who had <br />been specifically invited to the meeting) to determine the level <br />of interest in any redevelopment together with ascertaining which <br />persons might be willing to serve on a task force to develop <br />goals and objectives for the area. <br />In response to articles that were in the paper I have received <br />oneletter from a non -Orono resident as noted on Attachment A <br />who felt there needs to be some work done in the area tcgether <br />with letter noted in Attachment B from the Pastor at Grace <br />Baptist Church. A telephone call from a new resident in the <br />Casco Point neighborhood who has had extensive redevelo,,anent work <br />in his job with Minneapolis Community Development Agency has <br />indicated his willingness to work on a Task Force. <br />DISCUSSION - There has been little groundswell of comment, <br />support, concern or interest on the part of either the business <br />or property owners in area. <br />It is appropriate that if there is interest in doing something in <br />the area, a Task Force be formed to initiate identification of <br />issues and development of goals and objectives. It is <br />recommended that a Task Force be composed of persons with the <br />following background. <br />- Planning Commissioner <br />- Navarre Resident <br />- Westonka Chamber Representative.'Orono Business Person <br />- Property Owner/Navarre Business Area <br />- 2-3 At Large Representatives <br />If this seems to no in agreement the Council, staff will <br />advertise for individuals from the area together with the Mayor <br />and myself to meet with principal property owners in that area to <br />
