AGENDA ITEM <br />Date: February 23, 2026 <br />Title: Purchase Capital Equipment - Electronic Control Devices <br />Presenter: Correy Farniok, Police Chief <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br />Item: 8 <br />Purpose: <br />The purpose of this action item is to approve the purchase of ten (10) Taser 10 electronic control <br />devices. <br />2. Background: <br />The Orono Police Department utilizes electronic control devices (ECDs) as a less -lethal option to <br />help safely resolve confrontational or high -risk encounters while reducing the likelihood of injury <br />to officers and the public. The current Tasers that the Orono Police Department all have reached <br />there limit and some have exceeds life expectancy and need to be replaced. <br />Axon's Taser 10 represents the current generation of ECD technology, providing enhanced <br />accuracy, increased effectiveness, and improved accountability features when compared to earlier <br />models. The proposed purchase will replace aging equipment and ensure officers are equipped <br />with reliable, modern less -lethal tools consistent with best practices and departmental use -of -force <br />policy. <br />The Police Department has reviewed the Taser 10 platform and determined it meets operational <br />needs and training standards. Axon Enterprise, Inc. is the sole manufacturer and authorized vendor <br />of Taser devices, making this purchase eligible for single -source procurement under applicable <br />purchasing policies. <br />3. Cost: <br />$51,996.00 for ten (10) Axon Taser 10 electronic control devices and related equipment. This is <br />paid over the course of five years at $10,399 per year. <br />4. Funding: <br />Funds for this purchase have been identified and budgeted for in the 2026 Police Capital <br />Improvement Plan. The total cost including devices, accessories, licensing and training is <br />$51,996.00 <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />Motion to approve the purchase of ten (10) Axon Taser 10 electronic control devices and related <br />equipment from Axon Enterprise, Inc. in the amount of $51,996.00.
