MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON NOVEMBER 10, 1986 <br />The regular meeting of the School Board of Orono Independent School District No. <br />278 was held on Monday, November 10, 1986. <br />Present: Dave McKown James Franklin Thomas Mich <br />Don Anderson John Maresh William Fenholt <br />Kitty Crosby Lucie Taylor <br />UPON MOTION by Kitty Crosby, seconded by John Maresh, the consent agenda was <br />approved as follows: <br />- approved the minutes of the October 27, 1986 regular meeting; <br />- approved variance requests for Angel and Jay Johnson to attend Wayzata <br />Schools for the remainder of the 1986-87 school year; <br />- appproved variance requests for Alison Muller and Stephen Floe to attend <br />Orono Schools for the remainder of the 1986-87 school year; <br />- approved Treasurer's Reports for July, August and September, 1986; <br />- approved the bills as covered by vouchers 053831 through 053879 and 052889 <br />through 053212. <br />Dr. Mich reported that the Minnesota School Boards Association Convention will <br />be held on January 18, 19 and 20 and those Board members interested in attending <br />should notify the District Office; that Juanita Havill, children's author, will <br />be working with grade 3 on November 18; that he will be participating in a <br />National Association cf School Educators Seminar in January at Park City, Utah; <br />that the National School Board Association Convention will be held April 4 - 7, <br />1987 and the District Office should be contacted if Board members are planning <br />to attend; that Orono Schools received an Energy Investment Award and a letter <br />from the Governor in recognition of the energy conservation measures that have <br />been implemented; that the Industrial Arts teachers will be at the December 8 <br />Board meeting as a continuance of a request last year regarding future plans for <br />this departmert; that there was an excellent turnout and an exciting program <br />last Monday night, November 3, honoring the girls' tennis conference cham- <br />pionship and the boys' conference and sectional title in football. <br />Dr. Mich stated that the football team has made a special contribution to the <br />community this year as an activity such as this serves as a catalyst for the <br />school district and people are able to focus positively on the district. For <br />these reasons, Dr. Mich expressed thanks to the football team and coach, Steve <br />Fedie, for their contribution in this area. He extended congratulations to <br />Steve Fedie on being named metro "Coach of the Year" by Channel 11. <br />Dr. Mich reminded the Board of the HTC meeting on November 20, 1986, for the <br />purpose of discussion regarding HTC's service in the western suburbs. <br />Dr. Mich reported that Saturday marked the beginning of solicitations for the <br />Orono Education Fund; that he wanted to pay tribute to the PIONEER for the <br />excellent article regarding goal setting and long-range planning of the School <br />Board; that school conferences are in process; that thanks are in order to the <br />mayors/representatives of the various communities for cosigning the proclama- <br />tion for American Education Week. <br />
