E PUBLIC MEETINGS AND HEARINGS
<br />Anoka Landfill Expansion EAW--The
<br />Council will hold a public meeting on Ian.
<br />14, 1987, to hear public comments on an
<br />environmental assessment worksheet EAW
<br />prepared to evaluate the proposed
<br />expansion of the Anoka Sanitary Landfill.
<br />The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m, in
<br />the Ramsey Elementary School, 15000
<br />Nowthen Blvd., in the city of Ramsey. For

<br />Candidates for Metropolitan Council --The
<br />nominating committee appointed by Gov.
<br />Rudy Perpich to recommend candidates for
<br />Council positions will hold two public
<br />meetings in lanuary. The purpose of the
<br />meetings will be to hear candidates
<br />describe their qualifications and viewpoints,
<br />and to hear people who want to speak on
<br />behalf of the candidates.
<br />The first meeting is to hear candidates in
<br />Council Districts 4. 6, 8 and 10. It will
<br />begin at 7 p.m., Ian. 6, in the Brooklyn
<br />Center Civic Center, 6301 Shingle Creek
<br />Pkwy., Brooklyn Center. The second
<br />meeting, for candidates from districts 2, 12,
<br />14 and 16, will be held at 7 p.m., Ian. 7, in
<br />the Bloomington City Hall Council
<br />Chambers, 2215 W. Old Shakopee Rd.,
<br />Bloomington.
<br />Candidates must be residents of the
<br />district they seek to represent and,
<br />according to state law, must be
<br />"knowledgeable about urban and
<br />metropolitan affairs."
<br />A general description of the districts
<br />follows:
<br />District 2 is the southern half of St. Paul,
<br />excluding Highland °ark.
<br />District 4 is the south-central third of
<br />Minneapolis.
<br />District 6 is north and northeast
<br />Minneapolis.
<br />District 8 is southern Anoka County,
<br />including Columbia Heights, Fridley,
<br />Hilltop, Spring Lake Park, Coon Rapids,
<br />Blaine, Lexington and Circle Pines.
<br />District 10 is the northern Hennepin
<br />County suburbs of Crystal, New Hope,
<br />Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park and Osseo.
<br />District 12 is the southern Minneapolis
<br />suburbs of Richfield and Bloomington.
<br />District 14 is Scott and Carver Counties,
<br />and Burnsville and Lakeville in Dakota
<br />County.
<br />District 16 is southern Dakota and
<br />Washington Counties.
<br />Members of the nominating committee are

<br />Recent Appointments --The Council made
<br />the following appointrnen-s to advisory
<br />committees.

<br />Transportation Drafting Notices --Under a
<br />new state law, the Council gives public
<br />notice of its intention to revise its policy
<br />plans and establishes a public comment
<br />period The Council is currently in the
<br />public comment period for its Water
<br />Resources Management Policy Plan, Part 1,
<br />and its Transportation Policy Plan Copies
<br />of pre -drafting notices, which summarize
<br />the issues to be addressed in the plan
<br />revisions, are available from the Council by

<br />Open Space Commission, Metropolitan

<br />The Council appoints members, and
<br />suggests nominees for the chairs to the
<br />governor.
<br />Four district positions, plus the chairs, of
<br />each commission are up for appointment.
<br />District A is made up of most of St. Paul:
<br />B, northern Ramsey and Washington
<br />Counties; C, the south half of Minneapolis;
<br />and D, the north half of Minneapolis and
<br />its older, northwest suburbs.
<br />Two public meetings will be held in
<br />February to consider candidates. The
<br />meeting for Districts A and B will be held
<br />at 7 p.m., Feb. 10; 1987, in the Little
<br />Canada City Hall Council Chambers, 515
<br />Little Canada Rd., Little Canada. The
<br />meeting for the three chairs' positions and
<br />Districts C and D will be held at 7 p.m. on
<br />Feb. 11, 1987, in the Meeting Room, Creek
<br />View Neighborhood Center, 5001 Irving Av.
<br />N., Minneapolis.
