It <br />is because I am greatly interested and actively involved <br />in the community affairs of Orono that I feel the need to <br />become more thoroughly involved with the important decission <br />making aspects of the community. As an Orono Park Commis ion <br />member I had hoped to be able to fullfill an important part <br />of the needs of the community, but after attending several <br />of the City Council meetings I fully realize that it is at <br />the City Council level that most of the major impact is made. <br />There are many aspects in my background that I feel can assist <br />me in becommina an effective Orono City Council member. My <br />background includes: Serving as a volunteer for the United <br />Way Campaign (area fundraiser chairperson), The American Red <br />Cross, Hennepin Count; Humane Society, and The Parent -Teachers <br />Organization. My political involvements include: State <br />level campaigning, running for Precint Committeeperson (in <br />my home town of Illinois). I am a member in the following <br />professional organizations: Association For Women In Science, <br />Society of Microbiologist, and Illinois State Teachers Assoc. <br />I wish the Orono City Council the Best of luck in the comming <br />new year - and I sincerely hone that I can assist in the <br />communities' endeavors. <br />Most respect ly, <br />Mariinn 1'.
