TO: Mayor Jabbour and Orono Council Members <br />Chair Smith and Orono Planning Commission Members <br />FROM: Lyle Oman, Building Official <br />DATE: April 9, 1999 <br />SUBJECT: Building Code Requirements <br />In regards to the proposed lot line rearrangement at 650,660, 670 and 680 Big Island, the building <br />code requires that buildings within 3 1 of property lines have certain fire protection features. This <br />would include a firewall with an extension that raises above the roof at the exterior wall. State <br />statutes requires adoption and enforcement of the building code in the City of Orono without <br />changes. <br />The building code has provisions to accept equivalent materials or methods but does not have <br />provisions for variances.
